“[T]he convention’s leadership wants to ensure the public is thoroughly informed and has opportunities to provide feedback on the draft constitution.”
From the Facebook page:
J.H. Snider: The convention is confused about the difference between public engagement and PR.
Jay Joseph: J.H. Snider how so?
J.H. Snider: PR is top-down communication; public engagement is bottom-up communication. The two are often confused insofar as those engaged in PR will always want to claim transparent, participatory processes. To determine which is which, one must look at the details. One good detail is the budget. The convention will spend approximately 50% of its budget on a marketing plan to sell its recommendations to the public. Meanwhile, the convention has no money to provide timely access to meeting agendas before meetings, no money to share documents discussed at meetings either before or after meetings, and no money to share its meeting recordings with the public–even though this type of information would cost only a tiny fraction of the cost of the marketing plan.
